Indiana admits that George’s “Crystal” ideas were stupid
The Playlist noticed a very telling slip-up in a recent Harrison Ford interview where Harrison had this to say:
“It was the three of us, Steven, George and I, coming to agreement on the central notion of it all,” Ford said. “I think the original idea is still a large piece of it in the movie, but it’s been developed and worked on in ways that made it a lot more palatable to Steven and I.”
When Lucas’ was interviewed by the AP and asked about the same thing he said:
“They wanted to go off on some other tangent. I said, ‘I’m not going to do that. I’m going to stick with this no matter what, so we either do this or we don’t. That’s it.’ Finally, we got something that we could all compromise on and all be happy with. It wasn’t quite as wacky as I wanted it to be, but it still is subtle and nice and works really well and has the same idea behind it.”
So the Playlist translated this quote and article about the same way we at the Fused Film Blog and at other blogs like Slashfilm did, that this movie will suck and there will be some Roswell-like aliens from outer space as the central theme in ‘Indy 4′ but it’s supposedly done in a tasteful way.
Well all I have to say is I told you so Raiders.net - This film may potentially suck worse than Phantom Menace, which lets say as far as fan anticipation goes it was the hype of 2 almost 3 generations of people and it was a major let down. Like I have always said this is my first time to see Indiana Jones in the theater and it will be massively disappointing. 20 years in the making and Lucas, one of my own personal heroes, has to screw something up as great as Indiana Jones but I can’t say I am surprised because he screwed up the Star Wars trilogy. Those of you who think it stops with Spielberg are sorely mistaken, he has made nothing but crap the last few years and lets be honest films like Lost World, War of the Worlds, and AI were awful. His last good movie was Saving Private Ryan and before that it was Jurassic Park, before that is was Crusade everything else that may be considered Spielberg recent is shit!
So I will say Harrison may be our only hope for this film. Oh! wait is last few movies tanked too. Remember Firewall and Hollywood Homicide…unfortunately I do, those movies weren’t entirely his fault but bad movies can still have good acting and let just say his acting wasn’t on par but he might have been just collecting pay check all along thinking the movie sucked as he was doing it. He should still know how to play Indy though, right? We will have to wait and see.

I think you have completely misunderstood whatever Lucas or Ford said…but you are young and inexperienced. Lucas had an idea and it took a while before all three principals agreed on it - this is good news! Remeber that Lucas wanted a haunted castle for the opening of Last Crusade? Guess who shot that idea down. That doesn’t mean that the new movie will be great or that it will be a dud, but you are not fair or balanced in your views of Spielberg’s career (never saw Catch Me if You Can or Schindler’s List???). If you are going to write a blog, write one worth reading that doesn’t come from an anonymous person on the street - you’ll be a better person for it.
I do not think I have misunderstood this at all…nor does it make feel comfortable that their had to be common ground between all three of them for the movie to be made. 20 years and this is the best they could come up with? They should have left well enough alone.
As far as Spielberg’s career is concerned I said recent and I didn’t think those 2 movies were worth mentioning because they were good movies…I was merely pointing out that Spielberg’s most recent films (of the past 6 years) weren’t good movies for many reasons. If you feel like my blog isn’t worth reading than why did you bother to read it in the first place?
My opinion on KOTCS is based on numerous analyzing on the pics, script details, comments on cast, crew and studio. I have covered all of these elements from the very beginning and what was once an exciting project with lots of promise has become a project that has disappointed me to this point.
Besides I wouldn’t be surprised if Indiana Jones meets Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Kingdom of the Skull and he tells him about midichlorians and then transports him to another galaxy and time and Indiana becomes Han Solo.

And I have established an opinion long ago, back in 2003, about Indiana Jones 4 and how that would work in today’s climate. But I was not skeptical because of the parties involved…you can express disappointment but the truth is, there isn’t as much material about the plot of the movie to speculate on as you might have imagined. And your final comment mixing in Star Wars shows that you might be more disappointed that Lucas is involved (who created the character) than anything else. I read any and every blog, including Yahoo’s articles which are nothing more than blogs about this movie, at this point, because I am interested and disappointed to see that you have not written anything different from anyone else’s complaints about the movie.
Don’t pay attention to Mr. Saravia - he didn’t like The Matrix and he wrote a screenplay called “Web of Gold” which should give you a good idea of what kind of fan-atic you have got here. This movie can’t work, and won’t. Spielberg has forgotten how to dazzle people with a sense of fun and magic and wonder, and hung it up after Schindler’s List. Even Last Crusade was too mature, too serious-minded and sentimental. This movie screams DESPERATION and utter DRIVEL for no purpose other than to cash in some bucks. Not that the three principals need the money - and Ford is one of the worst, lobotomized actors in recent years. What happened to this man after the 1980s’? In short, I have no interest in any of these dumb and dumber blockbusters this summer…stick with the smaller films that offer more than something like a stupid crystal skull.
