Original Post - July 8, 2008

So the time has come since we are at the halfway point of 2008 to look at the top 10 Best and Worst Movies So far… Now please keep in mind that certain movies are not included simply because we haven’t seen them. This list compilation is based on films from January 2008 to the July 6, 2008.

Fused Film’s Best Movies In 2008… So far….

    #1 - Iron Man

Without any doubt this movie stays # 1 at this point because it was so well done and it kept all the elements the comic had and combined that with great acting and wonderful CGI. Also the fact this is a movie the whole family can watch and enjoy makes it number 1 at this point.

    # 2 - WANTED

This is the biggest surprise for us simply because its story and visuals really stuck and James McEvoy and Morgan Freeman were awesome! Timur Bekmanbetov will have a good American film directing career to look forward too.

    # 3 - WALL*E

This is everyone’s number one but we couldn’t make it the best film because it didn’t hit us right. We didn’t like the Go-Green and we certainly didn’t like the plot shifting themes halfway through. Otherwise it was beautiful film with a great character in WALL*E. It is still one of the better movies this year with out any doubt.

    # 4 - Chronicles of Narnia - Prince Caspian

This was a great follow-up and what I liked about it was that the young actors were better this time around. Sure it could have been better at using CS Lewis’ themes better but this is an adaptation so sometimes things get lost in translation…we do not think it took away from the overall story. Ben Barnes was sharp too!

    # 5 - Cloverfield

The viral hype of this movies was outstanding and so was the monster…otherwise the plot had its holes and the shaky camera made this film difficult to handle but the fact this movie was different makes it likable and if you can get past the pop-culture dialog in the first 25 minutes it is a decent film and worthy of being in the top 5.

    # 6 - Kung Fu Panda

This was a funny and crazy animated comedy that the whole family can enjoy…the voice cast was great and really gives substance to the animal characters. Not to mention the martial arts were great.

    # 7 - Spiderwick Chronicles

Going into The Spiderwick Chronicles I was expecting a cookies cutter film in the same vein as all the new little fantasy family films have been. Surprisingly, Spiderwick turns out to be more than just that. The movie makes you feel awe and wonder with the world in which it takes place with a good performance from Freddie Highmore. Also the film managed to be creepy and campy…not enough to replace Harry Potter but not bad.

    # 8 - Forgetting Sarah Marshall

The funniest movie I have seen in forever. Yes there was some dropped “trow” but that was still funny. Peter Segal is starting to make a name and this movie is memorable and will definitely be in my Judd Apatow collection.

    # 9 - In Bruges

I had an opportunity to see a screener of this recently and it was fantastic. It reminded of a Guy Ritchie film…and the 3 main characters played by Brendan Gleeson, Colin Farrell and Ralph Fiennes were perfect. This movie may go higher after the year end.

    # 10 - Jumper

Not a bad movie…not great…director Doug Liman doesn’t deliver like he did in Bourne but he manages to make the action and summer movie fee this film had and overshadow that with an indie style and that wasn’t bad. Not to mention Anakin (Hayden Christenson) is actually pretty good in this film.

AND NOW WE PRESENT TO YOU, SADLY, THE 10 WORST FILMS OF 2008 SO FAR

    # 1 - Meet the Spartans

This movies was not funny and was a complete waste of time and money. It further proves that I have some scripts that Hollywood can use.

    # 2 - The Love Guru

I gave this a positive review at Geeks of Doom but ultimately it was bad…and I had to look past my love for Mike Myers to realize that.

    # 3 - Witless Protection

The fact they made this movie urks me and makes my stomach hurt…Ugh! I think I just threw up!

    # 4 - Baby Mama

Not funny and Amy Phoeler is just annoying!

    # 5 - The Strangers

Not scary and Liv Tyler seemed like she was running

    around screaming the whole time.

    # 6 - Drillbit Taylor

Owen Wilson was simply playing himself and this movie just stunk…it had funny moments but it was just trying to capitalize on the Superbad success.

    # 7 - Fool’s Gold

Terrible plot, horrible acting and Matthew McCounaughey had his shirt off the entire time.

    # 8 - Speed Racer

I have nothing to say except that this movie was made for people with disabilities and little children.

    # 9 - Don’t Mess With the Zohan

Adam Sandler hasn’t made a funny movie in a long time and maybe he shouldn’t try anymore

    # 10 - The Happening

This probably should have been number one because it was so bad I couldn’t stand it. Shymalan should go away for awhile.

  1. “Shyamalan should go away for awhile.” I LOL’d.

  2. I think KOTCS “that’s Mutt Jones and the curse of old age” should be in the top 5 stinkers of the year. I almost would rather sit through the crapping again than that stinker.

  3. Baby Mama was funny (thank you Tina Fey) and Amy Poehler rules!

  4. Yeah, this is a good year for the hottest man in Hollywood, having major roles in both the #1 and #2 movies on your Best Movies list.
