Fused TV News: LOST gets new characters and CSI gets Fishbourne!

LOST gets 2 new characters — Caesar and Ilanna

The fifth season of LOST is expected to start filming in the next few weeks and there has already been some news of two new characters. Entertainment Weekly has posted descriptions of two new characters that will appear in the fifth season, Ceasar and Ilanna. Here are the decriptions below:

First up is Caesar, a dangerous, physical and extremely intelligent male between the ages of 35 and 45. Although his intentions are unclear, this much is certain: He’s as skillful at charming people as he is at killing them. He also has a dark past, but, c’mon, that much was a given.

The other newbie is Ilanna, a European female in her late 20s to early 30s who possesses great intelligence, but who’s also dangerous as all get out. She’s alluring and apparently used to getting her own way.

The article also mentions that these will be recurring characters in the fifth season with the possibility of being promoted to series regulars for the sixth and final season. Casting for the roles is currently under way. LOST plans on returning for their fifth season in February of 2009.

I think this is interesting news especially since it doesn’t confirm whether or not they are on the Island or off the island. Very interesting. I have to say that I am sure this the show wanting to sex themselves up just like when they brought Ana Maria (Michelle Rodriguez) on the show or the 2 characters who poisoned themselves, the lovers, I can’t remember their names but they were there to sex some things up and didn’t really work out. If they are on the island that will strike me funny because it is interesting if they have been their the whole time and we didn’t know.

CSI has its new team member — Lawrence Fishburne joins cast!

Laurence Fishburne (Oscar nominee, Emmy, & Tony Award winner) will join the cast of the CBS Paramount Network Television and Jerry Bruckheimer Television series, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, on the CBS Television Network. His character will debut in this season’s ninth episode.

Fishburne will play a former pathologist who is now working as an itinerant college lecturer, teaching a course in criminal-istics. His focus is on understanding criminal behavior, how and why people commit acts of violence - tendencies he disturbingly sees within himself. In the course of a murder investigation, he comes into contact with the CSI team and ultimately joins the Las Vegas Crime Lab as a Level-1 CSI.

So it seems we have a combination of Criminal Minds meets CSI — a forensic profiler as it were.

“I am elated and delighted to be joining the cast of CSI” says Fishburne. “I look forward to a wonderful collaboration with the creative and talented team of such a successful and distinguished show,” he added.

I am not a huge fan of the show, I stopped watching after the 3rd season but not because it was bad, I started watching other things and it just didn’t fit my schedule anymore. Fishbourne is a great actor and his presence on this show is going to be big and will certainly expand the shows demographic as well range. A great casting choice.
