Fused TV News: Witches of Eastwick, Hawaii 5-0, New Heroes Characters!
Witches of Eastwick
Variety is reporting ABC will be bringing the The Witches of Eastwick to television. The new version is said to be a variation on the 1987 feature of the same name. The feature film is based on the novel of the same title by John Updike. the film starred, Jack Nicholson, Cher, Susan Sarandon and Michelle Pfeiffer.
The story, set in the fictional Massachusetts town of Eastwick, is based around the magical abilities and personal growth of the three female protagonists.
I’ve never seen the movie (the most interesting part for me was John Williams did the music) but I honestly don’t see this working as a tv show. Will it be the next “Buffy”? or “Charmed”? Stay tuned to ABC to find out.
Catch a Wave on Hawaii 5-0
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting ‘Criminal Minds’ exec producer/showrunner Ed Bernero is in for a reboot of the Hawaii Five-0 franchise. The new take on the popular crime drama, which aired on CBS from 1968-80, is a procedural chronicling the workings of the fictional Hawaiian state police department. In the original, the unit was headed by Steve McGarrett, played by Jack Lord. In the new series, McGarrett’s son Chris will be the top cop.
I never watched the original show but I am a pop culture geek so I’m familiar with the opening theme song and the famous closing line, “Book’em, Danno.” Having lived in Hawaii for a period of time, I am somewhat interested in this new incarnation, being that it will be filmed in Hawaii. It sounds like everything is being done right (While the characters, storytelling and pacing will be updated, “we will try to keep as much of the original show as possible,” Bernero said. “I’m not trying to reinvent it.”) With the success of Lost, perhaps we’re ready for more shows filmed on the beautiful islands.
Breckin Meyer and Seth Green are HEROES
EW.com is reporting Seth Green and Breckin Meyer will be joining the cast of Heroes as comic book geeks from the A-Town (Atlanta, GA) who advise one of the heroes.
I’m excited about this casting news, Green and Meyer are good friends with one another in real life and have collaborated on Robot Chicken for Cartoon Network. Both are talented actors and geeks as well, which fits right in on Heroes.
