Actor, Morgan Freeman was injured in a car accident late Sunday night and is in a hospital in Fused Film’s hometown of Memphis, Tenn.

Kathy Stringer, Regional Medical Center spokeswoman said Freeman, 71, is in serious condition. The hospital is about 90 miles north of the accident scene which occurred in rural Tallahatchie County in the Mississippi Delta.

Clay McFerrin, editor of Sun Sentinel in Charleston, who arrived at the accident scene on Mississippi Highway 32 soon after it happened said it appeared that Freeman’s car was airborne when it left the highway and landed in a ditch.

“They had to use the jaws of life to extract him from the vehicle,” McFerrin said. “He was lucid, conscious. He was talking, joking with some of the rescue workers at one point.”

According to McFerrin, when one person tried to snap a photo with a cell phone camera, Freeman joked,

“no freebies, no freebies,”

The hospital where Freeman is being treated is commonly known as The Med, and is an acute-care teaching facility that serves patients within 150 miles of Memphis.

We spoke to a Memphis Area Medical Professional associated with some major area hospitals and were told that,

If you are ever in a bad trauma related accident you must go to a trauma center,The Med is where you want to go for that here. Being that it serves patients within 150 miles of Memphis it makes logical sense that Mr. Freeman would be taken there especially with when the ‘Jaws of Life’ are used.

I hate hearing this news and pray and hope Mr. Freeman gets through this. His loss would be a very detrimental blow to this world because not only is he a talented actor but living in this part of the country where he lives and dealing in a business based in his hometown, Mr. Freeman gives a lot back to his roots and does a lot for Memphis based non-profits like LeBonheaur Children’s Hospital and St. Jude Children’s Hospital, both based right here in Memphis. We at Fused Film wish him the best and a speedy recovery. As for the jerks snapping pictures, have some sense of privacy and decency, yes he is a famous person but there are times and places.

It seems The Dark Knight success has cursed its actors, first the death of Ledger, then “Bale-Batman” is busted beating his sister and mother (supposedly) and now Morgan Freeman is in the hospital after a wreck, oh yeah and they had a stuntman die during production. I hope nobody else from this production has a Final Destination moment. Morgan Freeman was last seen in this summer’s hit, The Dark Knight as well as Wanted.
