Wolverine Update! Power Struggle Behind-the-Scenes!
A power-struggle seems to be brewing on the set of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, if rumor is to be believed. According to Hollywood Elsewhere there are differences of opinion over the tone of the film between Gavin Hood, who is directing the film, and Fox co-chairman and CEO Tom Rothman.
The struggle seems to center over whether or not the film should be dark, somber and gritty (as Hood would prefer) or if the film should be a little brighter and lighter, in order to draw a wider audience, which seems to be Rothman’s view.
Specifically, the latest blow-up between the two involves the rumored repainting of one of the X-Men Origins: Wolverine, sets, which had been repainted under Rothman’s orders while Hood was away from the set for a few days.
We’ll see how this rumored friction between the director and the Fox co-chairman will affect the final fate ofX-Men Origins: Wolverine, when the film hits theatres in May 2009.
This is the perfect case, assuming it is true, of a studio screwing up a film simply to make money! A wider audience means more money but it doesn’t mean crap if the film sucks! When will studio executives let the artists make the movie, look at The Dark Knight, that movie was a dark as at it could have been for a Pg-13 Comic book film, it made craploads of cash in a month, do think they went and repainted a set simply because they wanted to bring a wider audience. Let the artists do their work.
