Stupnitsky and Eisenburg to write Ghostbusters 3!

Shortly after Dan Aykroyd told EOnline that somebody(s) were working on a script for Ghostbusters 3 Columbia Pictures decided to announce who the two writers that would bring the Ghostbusters franchise back to light in a third installment.
Lee Eisenburg and Gene Stupnitsky, best known for their work as co-executive producers on the hit NBC comedy series of “The Office” are the screenwriters who are currently working on the project. According to Variety the two writers are developing the script,
designed to bring back together the original cast of Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson.
The trade also went on to mention that a third film had been attempted awhile back.
An attempt to make a third installment of the franchise was stymied in the dealmaking stage. Sources said so much gross was pledged to the participants that it was next to impossible for the studio to make any money on a third installment.
No deals will be made with the original cast until the script is ready, but the gross percentage will certainly be an issue. Sony has a standing policy not to allow more than 25% of first dollar gross out the door.
I have to say that this is certainly good news for Ghostbusters fans and with the arrival of the game hitting shelves sometime in the near future the prospect of reigniting the franchise with the original cast is certainly a great thing. I am just curious what kind of story they can do…especially with all of the technology in filmmaking around they didn’t have back in 1984 and 1989. All thoughts on the story have to purely be speculated at this point.

Here’s what needs to be stated: IT’S ABOUT BLOODY TIME! Every other long thought to be dead franchise has come back to life, and it’s now time to bring back the Ghostbusters.
Much like Rocky before Rocky Balboa (it does not matter if you like Rocky Balboa as much as it matters that Rocky actually had a nice send off), the Ghostbusters never got a proper send off. They never got the right story that culminated in the Ghostbusters not being brokes, jokes, and child party performers.
These characters are beloved. They deserve a grand third film, that serves these actors and characters better than FREAKIN VIGGO! So here’s to a third film kicking all sorts of ass.
